The German data protection community, known as one of the more elaborate national data protection regimes, gathers annually in the beautiful city of Kiel, Germany, to exchange the status of data protection in the real world. This “Datenschutz-Sommerakademie” is organised by ULD, a TRUMAN partner, and the data protection authority of the German federal state of Schleswig-Holstein.
In 2026, the theme of the Sommerakademie was “By Design: Data Protection and more”, focussing on different By-Design approaches for realising data protection, privacy, transparency, security, and AI trustworthiness. Here, KAU research group leader Prof. Simone Fischer-Hübner contributed with a keynote on the specific topic of “Privacy-Enhancing Technologies & Transparency-Enhancing Technologies – der Blick ins Labor” (“Privacy-Enhancing Technologies & Transparency-Enhancing Technologies – a glance at the lab”), highlighting the TRUMAN project work results in repsect to data protection, ethics, fairness and trustworthiness by design.
